Motorcycle Unit

The Duxbury Police Department has been using motorcycles as part of the patrol division since 1940. The motorcycle unit allows the Duxbury Police Department to expand our patrol functions in key areas, heavy traffic congestion, or even in response to certain crime trends.

The motorcycle is a full time, year round unit and is staffed with four officers and one sergeant. Officers assigned to the unit were required to complete an eighty-hour motorcycle training/certification course. During the training the officers learned proper execution of traffic stops, formation riding for specialized escorts, and safe driving procedures.

The motorcycle provides for a more visible and approachable officer creating new opportunities for positive interaction between youths and the police department. It is used in community events such as the Fourth of July Parade, escorts, and other community activities.
