Hit and run crash on Birch Street, driver located in the woods by K-9 unit

At approximately 3pm on October 30, 2019 Duxbury Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on Birch St.

Preliminary investigation by Officer Kathleen McIlroy indicates that 26 year old, Robert Hayes of Pembroke drove off the road and crashed through a utility pole. The pole was knocked down. The vehicle was heavily damaged and airbags were deployed. A witness stated the driver got out of his car and ran from the scene.

Duxbury Officer Stephen Hall and his partner K-9 Sirk with the assistance of Pembroke Officer Edmonston tracked Hayes through the woods. Officers located him along the high-tension lines off of Lakeshore Dr. as he continued to flee the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.

Due to Hayes’s medical state he was evaluated and transported to the hospital by Duxbury Fire Department.

Hayes will be summoned to court on a number of charges including OUI Drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, marked lanes violation, driving on a suspended license, and disorderly conduct.
