Overview of the Licensing Aspects of the State's Firearms Law
 

All current Licenses To Carry firearms are valid and renewable on the expiration date shown on such licenses. Thereafter, they will be renewable every six years.

Categories of Licenses To Carry Firearms are:

  • Firearms Identification Card (Restricted) - For purchasing self defense pepper spray under the age of 18. If you are over the age of 18, you do not need a FID to purchase self defense pepper spray
  • Firearms Identification Card
  • License to Carry

                A. Target & Hunting
                B. Sporting
                C. Employment
                D. Unrestricted

  • License to Possess a Machine Gun
  • Gun Club License (Only the Colonel of the State Police can issue a club license)

A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 will apply to all License To Carry and Firearms Identification Card applications and renewals, with the following exceptions:

  • There is no renewal fee for a person age 70 or over.
  • The first-time application fee for an FID Card (Restricted) is $25.00.
