Chief Clancy and the LoJack Corporation are pleased to announce a recent Lo-Jack grant award to the Duxbury Police Department. LoJack, a Massachusetts company, is the manufacturer of tracking equipment designed to aid police in the recovery of stolen vehicles, computers and other personal property by imbedding tracking devices into vehicles and other property. LoJack recently provided DPD with “police tracking computers” (PTC) at no cost. The PTC units were installed in two Duxbury police cruisers.
This system allows for law enforcement to locate stolen vehicles that are equipped with LoJack. The cost of the equipment and supporting training is valued at $1,500 per unit. In total, DPD received over $3,000 in equipment and system support from LoJack. The equipment installed in cruisers consists of a computer, a small tracking screen, and several antennas mounted on the roof. The PTC is activated once the Officer turns on their cruiser and is constantly scanning for Lojack equipped stolen vehicles.
How it works: If a vehicle equipped with LoJack is reported stolen a small radio frequency transceiver within the vehicle is activated and emits a signal. A police vehicle equipped with a PTC will receive the radio frequency from the stolen vehicle if they are within a few miles of it. The PTC has a small screen in the cruiser that Officers use to pinpoint the location of the stolen vehicle. The Duxbury Police will join a growing number of police agencies who have patrol vehicles equipped with PTC units.
