Cruiser Struck by Suspected Bullet

Duxbury Police are investigating a suspicious incident involving a marked cruiser. Over the weekend an officer conducting a pre-shift inspection of his assigned cruiser noted damage to the pillar area between the driver's side window and rear passenger window. The damage appeared to be caused by a high velocity strike from a projectile of some kind. Through initial investigation it is believed that the damage likely occurred Wednesday evening into Thursday morning when the cruiser was used on the evening and overnight patrol shifts. The officers assigned to the car did not report any unusual encounters.

Duxbury Police called for the assistance of State Police ballistic examiners to evaluate the damage. Fragments of what are believed to be from the projectile was removed from the damaged area and taken to the State Police lab for testing. Testing on the vehicle by a State Police chemist indicated that led was present, suggesting the projectile likely came from a firearm.

Investigators are now back tracking all calls for service and other activities the officers assigned to the car conducted during that period. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
