Burglary Suspect Arrested – Leaves Threatening Note

Duxbury – April 22, 2019 12:10pm

An Acorn street resident came home to find their house burglarized just before noon on Monday. They called police and waited outside for the arrival of officers fearing the suspect may still be in the home. A Duxbury Officer working a traffic detail in the immediate area was quickly on scene followed by responding patrol units. The Duxbury Police K-9 Unit responded as well. The detail officer noted an individual seen walking in the area an hour prior.

While conducting the investigation at the residence officers noted a man emerging from nearby woods walking away for the area. The man matched the description of the man seen earlier by the detail officer. Officers ran to detain the man who discarded items as the officers approached. It was later learned that one of the items discarded was confirmed stolen from the residence burglarized and the man had jewelry stolen from the home on his person. Officers also found a document on the suspect belonging to a resident of Ocean Ave in Marshfield. It was later learned that the Ocean Ave home was also burglarized earlier in the day. Marshfield Police are investigating that case. While conducting the investigation inside the Acorn Street home, officers located a note left by the suspect threatening the homeowners if they called the police to report the crime.

The suspect was then taken into custody by the investigating officers. Arrested was Clarke Phillips (32 YOA) of Marshfield. Phillips was transported to Duxbury Police Headquarters for processing.

Phillips was subsequently transported to a local hospital by the Duxbury Fire Department after becoming ill in the police station. He indicated that he ingested a large quantity of prescription medications stolen from the Duxbury home as police officers approached him.

After medical release Philips was transferred to the Plymouth County House of Corrections. He will be arraigned at Plymouth District Court Tuesday being charged with Breaking & Entering / Daytime, Larceny from a Building, Possession of a Class E Substance, Receiving Stolen Property, Larceny of Drugs and Intimidation of a witness/victim.
