Duxbury Police Implement Electronic Citation System

Duxbury Police Implement Electronic Citation System

Duxbury – June 28, 2022

Duxbury Police Officers have been given a new tool to aid in making our roads safer. A grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety has provided the hardware and software to support electronic traffic citations and created the Motor Vehicle Automated Citation and Crash System (MACCS). Duxbury Officers are now able to print and issue electronically created traffic citations. This equipment streamlines the process of issuing citations and warnings for traffic violations while enhancing legibility and eliminating errors. Each Duxbury cruiser has been equipped with a citation printer and each cruiser computer has been configured to transfer license and registration data from the RMV database onto citation and warning forms. Issuing officers simply indicate the type of violation, the location, and other pertinent facts, and then print the violation. It is anticipated that the technology will be further enhanced to interface it with the department’s internal records management system which will eliminate the need for manual data entry to track traffic statistics.
