High Five Friday
April 12th, 2018
It is with great excitement that I announce, on Friday, April 13th, 2018, Duxbury Police Department will be participating in “High Five Friday” along with several other Police and Fire Departments from Southeastern Massachusetts. This event will have Police Officers greet school children as they arrive for school that morning and exchange “High Fives”. This is an outstanding opportunity to have positive engagement with the youth in our community. “High Five Friday” fits perfectly with recommendations by the “President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing”. Specifically it is in line with following two Pillars of 21st Century Policing. They are: “Pillar #I - Building Trust and Legitimacy” and “Pillar #IV - Community Policing and Crime Reduction”.
The goals of this event are:
- Positive interaction with school children and Police
- Added sense of security for faculty, students and parents
- Building trust
- Reducing fear
- Fostering positive relationships
- Police Officers being viewed as guardians and part of the community
- Officers gaining a greater sense of friendship with faculty, students and parents
This news release is being sent out as a means of notifying parents and our town residents of the event. This event is being held in collaboration with the Duxbury Public Schools and we want to ensure parents are aware so there is no alarm when they see Officers at the school that morning.
