On September 8th, 2018, with the support of Marshfield and Plymouth Police Departments, DPD held a ceremony at our headquarters to dedicate a memorial stone which was put in place in memory of Duxbury Officer Melvin Dyer, End of Watch August 25, 2008.

On Saturday, August 16, 2008 Officer Melvin Dyer was directing traffic at the Marshfield Fair and was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop. The incident occurred at the intersection of Main and South River Streets. Officer Dyer was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries nine days later. Officer Dyer served as a part-time, Special Police Officer with the department and had previously served with the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. Officer Dyer also served in the United States Marine Corps.
