Dedication of the Ofc. Melvin Dyer Memorial Stone

On Saturday, August 16, 2008 Officer Melvin Dyer was directing traffic at the Marshfield Fair and was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop. The incident occurred at the intersection of Main and South River Streets. Officer Dyer was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries nine days later. Officer Dyer served as a part-time, Special Police Officer with the department and had previously served with the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. Officer Dyer also served in the United States Marine Corps.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Officer Dyer's passing. On Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11am, the Duxbury Police Department will hold a ceremony at our headquarters to dedicate a memorial stone being put in place in memory of Officer Dyer. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the DPD Training Room.
