Duxbury Police K9 Is An Active Unit Regularly Patroling The Town....

                                                                                   

Currently Officer Zar is the departments K9.  Zar arrived in the United States on October 15, 2004 from Czechoslovakia.  He is an all black German Shepard and was one year old when he joined the department.  Zar was hand selected by Officer Cavicchi to work and meet the needs for the Town of Duxbury.  Upon his arrival Zar has undergone extensive testing and training.

Zar has completed a 16 week school at Barnstable Sheriffs Department.  This training was the basis for building his skills as a Police Service Dog.  It is here that he built the bond with his handler and learned all the necessary tools for the job.  During this extensive training, Zar learned how to track, apprehend, detect, provide crowed control, conduct building searches, and obtain the appropriate skills to execute his job.  Training for Zar does not stop at the end of his initial training.  He currently trains sixteen hours a month with his trainer and handler. 
     

To Date, Here Are Just Some Of Zar's Most Recent Accomplishments:

  • Stolen Motor Vehicle - Two suspect fled on foot, Zar tracked them over 50 yards, locating both suspects hiding in a bulkhead.  Both suspects arrested.

  • Motor Vehicle Accident w/ Injuries - Suspect fled scene, Zar tracked over 100 yards, locating suspect hiding in a wooded area.  Suspect placed into custody.

  • Business - Zar tracked suspect from a broken window, later found suspect fleeing on a bicycle.

  • Motor Vehicle - Zar tracked suspect over 1/2 mile into a marsh area, suspect hiding under brush and taken into custody.

  • Motor Vehicle - Zar tracked suspect from vehicle to suspects residence, over one mile away, suspect confessed to the crime.

  • House Break - Zar tracked suspect who eluded police, suspect taken into custody.

  • Barricaded Suspect - Suspect challenged with Zar and placed into custody.

  • Crowd Control - Parades and beach areas.

  • Motor Vehicle Accident - Operator fled the scene.  Zar tracked operator over 2.5 miles to the suspects residence.

  • Assault and Battery - Suspect assaulted his girlfriend and fled the scene.  Zar tracked and located suspect hiding in the woods, suspect placed into custody.
