MISSION STATEMENT

It shall be the mission of the Firearms Training Unit to provide the following
services to the Duxbury Police Department and any other department as authorized by the Chief of Police within the fiscal restraints imposed on the department:

                  To teach basic firearms marksmanship, safety and nomenclature to new officers and maintain these skill levels to an acceptable degree in veteran officers.

    To teach tactical marksmanship and tactics; and maintain these skill levels at as high a level as possible.

 To provide quality firearms instruction to all officers without favoritism or    bias.

                   To operate in a fiscally responsible fashion providing the department and the town with the maximum amount of training for its money.

                To develop new training programs which will teach as well as challenge.  Outdated or irrelevant training will discarded in favor of up to date material.

 To institute and maintain a preventive maintenance program for department weapons.

                  To constantly examine new equipment to insure that the department continues to utilize the best equipment it can afford.

D.P.D. Firearms Instructors have received training by various certifying bodies including the Municipal Police Training Committee, Glock, Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, Mass. Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors’ & Armorers’ Association, Smith & Wesson Academy, SIG Arms Academy, Center Mass, IALEFI, Action Target Academy, Armor Holdings, Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council, and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
