HELPING STUDENTS MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES.......

School Resource Van Courtesy of Toyota of Weymouth

Duxbury has been a D.A.R.E. community since 1990.  Duxbury D.A.R.E. Officers have instructed thousands of students in that time.  The Duxbury Police department continues to educate students about drugs and alcohol.  Over the years the officer who we always referred to as the "D.A.R.E. Officer" has taken on more responsibilities.  It's with these expanded responsibilities that we now refer to the once D.A.R.E. Officer as School Resource Officer.

Detective Friend Weiler is the designated School Resource Officer for the Duxbury Police Department. He has served in this capacity since 2000.  Detective Weiler is assigned to patrol in and around Duxbury’s school district.  His duties and responsibilities encompass safety and security for all schools from kindergarten to high school grades.

Additionally, Detective Weiler is still active with the D.A.R.E. program, Student Police Academy, D.A.R.E camps, and he also presides over many extracurricular events in the schools system.  He also coordinates regularly with the school principals and guidance personnel on student safety and educational issues.

Since it’s inception, the school resource officer’s active presence in Duxbury’s schools has brought about effective, positive change among the youth in our community.  The Duxbury Police Department and the school district have achieved a cooperative partnership in addressing issues concerning Duxbury’s schools and the youth in our community. These efforts have been recognized and praised by parents, students, teachers, school staff, residents, town government and our own police officers.

Detective Weiler can be reached at 781-934-5656 ext.4
